GRM Candidates

Preliminary Examination (PE)

Number of Students Admitted

15

The total number of students admitted in both the spring and the fall semester will be 15.

Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following three requirements.

  1. (1)At the time of application, the applicant is affiliated with one of the core graduate schools (*1) or collaborating graduate schools (*2), and is in the second or third semester of the master's program (not including periods of absence).
  2. (2)The applicant has a strong desire to participate in the program and intends to complete the program.
  3. (3)The applicant has discussed his/her research plan with the academic supervisor and has obtained the supervisor’s consent to apply for this program.

Admissions Guide

Application forms are available at Graduate School of Global Studies office, Graduate School of Science and Engineering office, or Department of Advanced Research and Education (Neiseikan 1F) from the middle of May, 2017.

Filing of Application Place of submission depends on the graduate school with which the applicant is affiliated.
Examination Location The examinations will be held at Imadegawa Campus.
Information on the exact classroom will be provided on submission of application materials.
Admissions Process Applicants are examined based on their application materials, academic progress, and performance in the written (essay) and oral examinations.

Qualifying Examination (QE)

QE must be taken BEFORE the entrance into Doctoral Degree Program (It is NOT possible to take QE after the entrance into Doctoral Degree Program).
If you intend to take an entrance examination for Doctoral Degree Program of Doshisha University and wish to continue GRM Program, please contact GRM Office to confirm when you should take QE.

  1. (1)The applicant has passed PE for GRM Program and has either passed or can demonstrate that he/she is scheduled to sit the entrance examination for Doctoral Degree Program of one of the core graduate schools(*1) or collaborating graduate schools(*3) of GRM Program.
  2. (2)The applicant has a strong desire to participate in the program and intends to complete the program.
  3. (3)The applicant has discussed his/her research (learning) plan with the academic supervisor and has obtained the supervisor’s consent to apply for this program

Financial Support

Special Grant for Students on the Advanced Doctoral Program in Global Resource Management

Doshisha University will provide grants for career support to GRM Students who apply for.
The GRM Grant continues until the end of March of 2019 (undecided beyond April of 2019).

Qualifying Students
  • ①Students who have passed Preliminary Examination (PE)
  • ②Students who have passed Qualifying Examination (QE)
Grant Amount
  • ①Monthly stipend of 150,000JPY (Students who have passed PE)
  • ②Monthly stipend of 200,000JPY (Students who have passed QE)
Grant Period
  • ①Maximum of 1 year during the enrolling period of Master's Degree Program (PE)
  • ②In principle, 3 years from the first through third year of Doctoral Degree Program (QE)
    (However, the finacial support beyond April 2019 is undecided.)
Grant Application Applicants must submit a Grant Application Form (form provided) and a GRM Program Commitment Form (form provided).
Other Requirements Students with another source of income will not qualify for the grant since it is provided for students to concentrate on GRM Program. (However, for students undertaking paid work as TA, RA, or as study and research support tutors for international students, the grant may be paid as long as such work is considered essential for the successful completion of GRM Program and total work hours is five hours or less per week.)
The grant is considered taxable income. The names of GRM Grant recipients are published on the GRM Program website.
