Welcome to Doshisha GRM International Conference 2015
This symposium aims to bring together leading international scholars in economic development, innovation studies, other relevant social and natural sciences; practitioners from international development organizations; and private sector actors working on inclusive innovation products and services.
As a preliminary, the symposium will cover theoretical underpinnings of inclusive innovation. It will then interrogate the concept of inclusivity of innovations, whether it is affordability for products and services by the poor based on frugal engineering, pro-poor accessibility, income and welfare enhancing scope of innovation for the poor, scale of business opportunity within poor segment of populations, or just exclusive pro-poor focused attention by private sector products and services. In addition, the symposium will also cover non-profit oriented innovations such as those by civil society organizations targeting social mobilization, conflict prevention, justice, and equity among any other social agenda. It is notable that modern technology has the potential to contribute much to human security: more knowledge and mobility, citizen journalism, enhanced information for political decision-making, better disaster prediction and response, improvements in medicine and food security for example.
It is expected that the symposium will lead to high quality research papers from the contributors. One mark of the expected quality is clarity in presentation of new and ground-breaking ideas regarding inclusive innovations and its relationship to human security based on the designed three dimensions. The final outcome will be an edited published work from all the contributors, subject to any recommended quality enhancements from the editors.
