On-site Group Work: Preparatory Sessions #1

On July 27, 2024, Preparatory Sessions for the GRM course “On-site Group Work” was held at Shiko-kan, Karasuma Campus, Doshisha University.
This subject involves on-site practice in Japan or overseas in order to learn about local issues and their solutions. This year, with the theme "Collaboration and innovation for clean energy transition: connecting technology, society, and actions for a change towards carbon neutrality", the on-site practice is scheduled to take place in Belgium at the end of August. It will be conducted in cooperation with Daikin Industries Ltd. and Daikin Europe N.V.. Ten postgraduate students from Doshisha and four young employees from Daikin will take part in the program, working together across the boundaries of their specialist fields.
On the day, after an explanation of the course and an overview of the on-site practice by Associate Professor Yuko Onishi, the subject supervisor, the participants were divided into three groups for self-introductions and brief group work. In the afternoon, In the afternoon, they also learned about 'Climate Change and Carbon Footprint Issues' from Dr. Jemyung Lee from the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature, and 'Renewable Energy and Energy Saving Technologies' from Professor Hidekazu Kobatake of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering.
