GRM Monthly Documentary Film Event - March
2019/03/15
A documentary film event will be held on Friday, 22 March 2019.
This event is going to feature a short film, followed by presentations by two guest speakers. Title of the 25-minutes film is “Partition: Borders of Blood,” about the highly volatile region of Kashmir, disputed by two nuclear powers. The film examines the troubled legacy of the historical event that shaped the Indian subcontinent which was divided by the British imperial rulers into two nation states, India and Pakistan 71 years ago. The legacy sparked three wars, the birth of Bangladesh, and transformed Kashmir into one of the world’s most militarized zone.
In Palestine, the British empire left a legacy of the disposition of the Palestinian people of their homeland in 1948 as a result of the creation of the state of Israel. The issue of Palestinian refugees and the Palestine question remains unresolved 70 years on.
The two guest speakers will talk about the persisting two conflicts and discuss how can we alleviate the suffering of ordinary people and tackle the prospect for a resolution.
